Yesterday and Today

Thankyou Dear Donna for this graphic

Maundy Thursday

Also known as Holy Thursday, on this day, Christians remember the last supper, during the meal Jesus took bread and wine and shared it with his disciples. Christians continue to share bread and wine as part of their worship in Church. During the last supper, Jesus washed his disciples feet, this act has sometimes been followed literally in history a good way of reminding rulers that they are here to   serve their subjects, and was preserved by the monarch until 1689.

In England today The Queen follows a very traditional role of giving Maundy money to a group of pensioners; this tradition dates from the 13th century.

This year the Queen accompanied by her husband the Duke of Edinburgh were at the Cathedral in Manchester, gave out Maundy money in white and red leather purses to 81 men and 81 women (pensioners)the amount of money is equal to the age of the monarch. Her Majesty the Queen will be 81 this year.

Now to borrow a term often used by commentators,on football and Rugby matches ....this entry is a game of two halfs !!!...Yesterday I went to the over sixties club,I enjoyed it as usual ,The Edinburgh Woollen Company came and did a fashion show for us ,gave me lots of ideas ! as if I need any !proveing though that older ladies... and men dont need to look like fuddy duddys...so no more crimplene for me!! and wrap round pinnys and my lyle stockings have to go   ;>) ?

When I turned my computer back on,when I got home I got an email from my friend Debbie ,asking me if I knew what Kizzie had been up to in my absense

Look she had been to the sea side !

And found a friend !

My dear friend Debbie ,I may never see her again ! has started to do PSP,she has only been doing it for three days and already has done lots of really clever stuff, she is glued to her computer ,and keeps sending me samples of her work Donna has been helping her ,she couldnt have a better teacher could she ? I dont know how to do those clicky things with peoples names ,but this is her link

http://journals.aol.co.uk/drb1064/whatever

although she hasnt done an entry for a couple of days ,she is addicted to making graphics ,Well have agood evening every one,With Love from

And look at this one isnt she clever ?Thankyou Debbie

These are lovely graphics Jan....Kizzie looks so cute!   Especially the bottom one. I too wish I knew how to do PSP.  I have found a site that trains you up but it still seems to be complicated.  My concentration is zilch these days!   Have a lovely Easter Weekend.  God Bless.   Jeanie

I'd never heard of Maunday Thursday until I joined Royal Mail. We get a half day off for it. So, every second year we get an extra day. I like Maunday Thursday.

Glad to see Kizzie is getting about a bit. B. x

How clever to be able to do such nice graphics.  I'm afraid that is beyond me .  I use only borrowed ones.  Our church will have the Holy Thursday washing of the feet tonight.  I won't go as it's much to cold out and I'm in for the evening.  Our Easter looks more like Christmas here with snow falling all day and all the early Spring blooms are frozen to be sure.  'On Ya' - ma

I am so jealous of people who can do clever stuff like this.  I tried to make an unusual siggy for my blog
http://journals.aol.co.uk/frdbrow7/now-im-retired.......--d/

- but it didn't work! :-(

I am always doing ten jobs at once (and never finishing any) perhaps one day I will sit at my computer and just learn how to insert pretty graphics, like you do Jan.

Happy Easter to you and all your readers.

Very interesting about Maundy Thursday, Jan.  I didn't know the Queen had any type of tradition for this event.  Sounds like you are having a great deal of fun with the PSP.  My daughter loves to do graphics as well, while I am hopelessly untalented and have to snag.  Happy Good Friday to you!  De ;)

LOL..Jan, you probably will never see your friend, Debbie, again.  PSP is so addicting.  She makes such lovely things.  It took me forever to learn glitter and animation.  Those graphics with Kizzie are just adorable.

That is such a nice thing to do for the pensioners, and I love the 81 men and 81 women with the Queen turning 81.  Have a very blessed Easter.  Love xx Chris

Crimplene?! Do they still make that stuff?! I don't like man made materials at all, give me cotton, silk and linen any day! Debbie's very good at the graphics and yes, DOnna must be the best ever teacher! I shan't forget Maundy Thursday in a hurry, it's a good tradition to hand out the money to pensioners, I hope it's kept up for a long time to come. I hope you, Maurice and Kizzie have a great Easter! I have never quite got the hang of graphics and so I end up with photos. I've got a nice one of my chocolate egg which I'll put up soon. I have already eaten it of course (the actual egg, not the photo).

Yes, it is wonderful when others do such lovely things for us.  I think you are very lucky to have such a good friend.

Over 60's, who cares about age, it is only a number!

By the way, have you ever heard about the U3A; it stands for the University of the Third Age.  Do not be put off by the title.  There is no studying involved or exams to take.

Everything that is undertaken is 'hands on' and there are lots of courses to choose from.  It costs me £10.00 a year for membership, 50p to go to the class and 25p for a cup of tea.

The only stipulation is that you have to be over the age of 50.

I do art and I also have a wonderful time in the informal class settings and cannot wait for the next class to come.

PS.

There are U3A's all over the world so there may be one near to where you live, ask at your local library.

John.
