Its Wonderful world !

Thank you Donna for this one x

Isnt technology wonderful ? Who would have thought not so many years ago I could sit in my garden admiring the swallows flying over head, look around at the garden take a few quick pictures ,and pop them into this entry all in a matter of minutes...and another example ,my Daughter Kate and family, are over in Spain ,she rang me on her mobile phone when they arrived ,and last night she was MSN.ing me,so we were able to chat ,just as we do when she is at home ...OK  this might not sound such a big deal to the youngsters out there ,but you see when I started school ,we did our sums with the aid of plastic counters(the sort used in Tiddly winks sets)and though yes we did have chalk and slates we also had pencils and paper to practise our pot hooks  ,I'm thinking that in not so many years time ,the youngsters are going to come across a pencil and pen and ask what is this Granny ?....and to take our photographs ,we waited until we had taken all thirtyfive exposures, then off to the chemist with the spool ,and wait until they had been developed ,maybe two/three days later ! Even further back to telephones, we didnt all have phones in the early days,so it was down to the telephone box on the corner ,(they werent smashed up in those days either !) insert our penny's if the person answered you press button A to connect and talk to them ,and if there was no answer ,you pressed button B and got your money back ...all these musings have come about ,with me sitting out in the garden ,and taking a few pictures of the garden ,the most amazing thing of all is that I'm actually, able to take part in all these wonderful innovations, yes I have seen some amazing changes  in my life .....With love From

Yes it is like a miracle the changes that have been made.... life seems to move so much faster now though..... sometimes I would like to slow it down a bit but I do find it amazing how I can take a picture and send it almost minutes later. and talk to people from far away that I would not even know otherwise is a wonderful thing. Hope you have a nice day in your pretty garden today, Sandra

Hi Jan ,like you say things have moved on so quickly,I remember the pens we used at school with the replaceable nibs ,you were always lucky if you got one with a thin nib that would write clearer. We had ink in the ink well in our desks and then fountain pens came out that you could fill yourself from your ink bottle.Oh the "Good old Days".Glad you were able to talk to Kate  on MSN.Enjoy the sunshine in your garden......Love Jeanxx

Technology sure has come a long way Jan ~ can well remember having to work maths out on paper having to show every step of the way on we came to the answer ~ Oh that we could have had a calculator ~ life would have been so much easier ~ thankyou for all your memories ~ just loved hearing about them all ~ Ally

Hi there Jan,  I enjoyed seeing your garden, arn't we lucky to be able to sit out or 'potter' around in our own little bit of land we call our gardens?

The old telephone box and the delay time, when waiting for the photos, now seem light years away and I wonder, when my son is as old as I am, what other changes will have taken place.

It's a wonderful world we live in.

By for now,

John.

I remember the old telephones, it was four old pennies we had to put in; I loved pushing the big silver buttons on them! Funny, I was only thinking last night about taking photos and how easy it is to download and send them to friends. We didn't have calculators, we used fingers! How did we cope?!! Lovely pics of the garden and Scooby! Jeannette xx

Hi Jan - your entry today has reminded me of when i was a child (we lived in Kent at the time) and how my mother would go down the road each sunday at midday while her sister in Birmingham was doing the same thing - so they could call each other and speak!

Oh, I know what you mean about the new technology.  I love most of it.  My husband and I laugh all the time about how we had to use reams of paper to figure out our advanced mathmatics problems because hand held calculators hadn't come along.  Our professors never had to check if we were using cell phones to call out for answers to test questions either.  I love my computer and digital camera the best!  Email and the ability to send and receive photos taken moments ago are the most enjoyable tech improvements in my home.
P.S.  Your dog is so CUTE!!!  I hadn't seen a full picture of him until today.  I love the breed.  My friend had a female for any years.  She was a luv!    Love, Kathy

Hi Jan,

You`ve just reminded me about those counters that we had at school, I`d completely forgotten about them.  Things have come along way since then haven`t they?  If anyone had told us about digital cameras we would have laughed! :o)

Hi, I remember those telephone boxes when you pressed B, How strange it looks now, and mum didn't have a phone for years. Think we only pretended to ring people. What good days they were, no vandalism, policeman walking the streets and we were all too terrified to be naughty.

Jan, it IS amazing how much things have changed!  I marvel at the technology and how advanced we have become since I was a child back in the 50's.  Who would have thought, even in the 70's that I would be able to develop somewhat of a relationship with people (through their journals) from ALL OVER THE WORLD!  Amazing!

Hugs,
Jackie

Oh, I remember those days well.  I was probably 22 before I had a calculator to reconcile my checkbook.  It is amazing that you can just pick up a mobile phone, make a phone call and sound like the person's next door.  And the computer....yikes...who would think you could put pictures on instantly and send them anywhere.  Love your garden...lovely.

I do remember the phone boxes and the queues at them! When somebody put another coin in you knew that you had to wait at least another five minutes. . LOL.Isnt it fab that you can communicate with someone on the other side of the world!! It makes the world a whole lot smaller.Love the photos of your garden.

It is true technology is amazing. I do not know what i would do without my laptop, mobile phone and TV! Perhaps we have lost the art of conversation though as texting has become the norm which has led to poor spelling!! Grumpy old thing aren't I!
