Still back in the 40's

Hi again every one ,Hope you are all well , this evenings entry is a follow on from yesterday,Oh and by the way, yes Jen ,I did post a similar entry after we went to the 40's weekend last year ,oh and also........ to clarify the fish Maurice caught were Carp and the big one weighed aprox twenty three pounds  ,and we dont eat them, we throw them back  .

I found these pictures in the local free paper that comes every Thursday ,it is mostly adverts, but does sometimes contain some interesting local news ,I thought you would like to see them .

Isnt the man doing his  Sir  Winston Churchill impersonation good ? and the guy playing the ukelayli oh spelling  I'll just say UKE  you know what I mean ! he was part of the group in the evening ,also very good .

Isnt he a sweety ?reminds me of the little boys starting school when I did !look at his plimsolls (footwear )and whats in his box ?

Well its this !a gas mask ,and this is the childs version and meant to look like Micky Mouse ,to encourage us to wear it should the need arise, fortunately we didnt need it ,like Micky Mouse ?I couldnt see it then and I;m still not sure  !So there you have it another blast from the past .......Have a lovely weekend everyone ,a good bank holiday Britain and if you are going away ,safe journey

with love

Thankyou so much for my siggy today Dianna...perfect !

I'm sure there's somewhere in the U.S. where they do WWII re-enactments.  I know down in the South, they do Civil War re-enactments and even here in Washington near me there are several places that do re-enactments of Indian War times.  I don't remember having gas masks, but my dad strongly considered building a bomb shelter in the back yard and at school we would have air raid drills, where we all went under our desks, with our heads down and eyes closed and arms up over our necks & head for protection.  There was an article in the local paper recently about the public bomb shelters still in exsistence around town.  I think at least one of them should be perserved and open for public tours, so the young people today can see what it was like here, back in the 40's & 50's.  Even then a constant threat of attack by the enemy. Thanks for sharing those pictures.  P.S. I love the hat !!   Linda (old enough to remember) in Washington state

It looks like Mickey Mouse?! I can't see it either! I'm glad you had a good time! I remember the kids in my class looked like that little boy too, those baggy shorts and the little school cap. We used to see lots of caps hanging of the top of lamp posts and fences! Have a great weekend! Jeannette xx

Love the photographs, Jan.  My mother has many aged newspaper articles that she pulls out occasionally for the family to enjoy.  Have a good one! xx  Chris

Oh bless that little boy with his gas mask box over his shoulder, couldn't you just eat him? I know it's a gas mask because we have Doris Dinsdale come to visit our school every year and the children spend days making their gas mask boxes in preparation for her WW2 experience.

Aw Jan, I haven't received my free papers this week :-(  I was wondering if the signs I've seen on the road side for an antique fair are at the school in St I.?  as I don't have a local paper to find out.  Was thinking of going along there this weekend.
Lovely pics and graphics! :-)

Well done an excellent blast from the past. I remember those black plimsoles and my kids all started school in caps and blazers. They do not seem to wear caps anymore unless you attend a private school!Love Conniex
