Maundy Thursday

Maundy coins are distributed    Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter ,Christians remember, as the day of the last supper ,when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, establishing the ceremony known as Eucharist,The word Maundy comes from a command given by Christ at the last supper,That We Should Love One Another .

Maundy Thursday ceremonies~The service this year is to be held at Guildford Cathedral. Her Majesty the queen ,presents Maundy money to deserving citizens of the community(usually chosen for having done service to the community)one man ,one woman for every year of her majestys age. They receive ceremonial red and white purses ,which contain coins especially minted for the occasion,The white purse contains one coin for every year of the monarchs reign. The Red purse contains money in place of gifts ,that used to be given to the poor .This year a special £5 coin was minted to celebrate the queens eightieth Birthday

Yesterday ,our flag was 400 years old ,Known as the Union flag ,or Union Jack ,both titles are correct, the jack is the name of the post  to which the flag was attached .

So is every one ready ,now for Easter ?Maurice has to work tonight ,he's here at the minute, but will go off later ,and when he comes home tomorrow morning, that will be him off until Tuesday ,We have a couple of things planned, but you will hear all about that as they happen .

I started my book last night ,and it is every thing I hoped it would be....I learned the defination of a word I've been using for decades without thinking too much about ~Lode,  a lode is a waterway linking villages to the main'cuts'and rivers.Yes this book is going to explain so much ,and in it like in many villages, all the characters have nicknames ,just as in the village I grew up ....I'm sure I never knew the given names of Gaffer ,Tunker ,Pudding ,and many more .

Well things to do ,places to go, So with the hope you all have a good day ,I will take my leave ,with love from....

I never knew "Good Thursday" had an official name.  I guess the Catholic church doesn't emphasize "Maundy Thursday."  You learn something new every day!

What a nice ceremony that is.  I'm laughing at the nicknames.  Ours are really different in the US.  I work for the federal government (US)....Veterans Affairs.  We serve the veterans who served in the military and their families.  I have to work today...grrrr....we don't get any religious holidays off except for Christmas.
We are granted time off if we want to attend Good Friday services near the office.  Have a blessed Easter weekend...HUGS  Chris
