Easter Monday was very special when we were small,it was the day we went to church and during the service we would be presented with ,our reward for good attendance in the form of a book ,the better the attendance the better the book ! I recieved most of my childhood reading this way ,all the lovely childrens classics...During a lovely family service attended by all of our family and friends ,the eager children would recieve thier prizes along with a bun and orange! The distribution of buns and oranges at Easter was endowed by the Bonney and Perry charity, founded by the Archdeacon Henry Kaye Bonney ,Rector of Kings Cliffe from 1810 to 1862,and his wife Charlotte Perry. The ceremony continued until recent times ,the above picture is from the 1970's ,It actually took place in church as I remember ,but these pictures were taken outside for the benefit of the camera,
You will see also I was Christened at Easter . On Easter Sunday. .........Another highlight at Easter ,my Aunty Marjorie and Uncle Cyril would come to stay, always armed with goodies ! an Easter egg each for John Jean and I , My Aunty was a fantastic knitter so we all had a new cardy or sweater made by her .Although they were Methodists ,Uncle Cyril was an Elder in his chapel ,they loved our services ,My uncle was a very talented Organist ,and some years later ,I asked our church organist if my Uncle might play our church organ,so before choir practise one evening we went along so my Uncle could have go ! Well! he made the rafters ring ,With 'Jesu Joy of mans desiring' and a number of others I think Miss Robins was a bit peeved because he played so well !! I know she was abit tetchy with me afterwards lol ,Uncle Cyril was a very clever carpenter too, he made a lovely dolls house for Jean and I and John had a farm and a fort, another fond memory of Uncle Cyril comes to mind ...when my sister got married to Pete, they of course came to the wedding ,now Uncle did not drink ,but someone told him ,Babycham was'nt alchohlic so he,enjoyed his drinks all evening and ended up walking home banging the big silver stand ,the cake had stood on ,on his knees singing all the way home, and declaring to everyone who would listen ,How happy he was ,Such happy times, when we were young! everything had its order and we respected and enjoyed it all because of it..........With Love From

Yet another lovely entry - Cyril sounds lovely :-)
I was also christened on Easter. Easter Monday is pretty much a holiday in the states also. But I can't even remember having any type of church service on Easter Monday. Most schools do not start back until tomorrow. But the rest of the world gets back to normal today. Times have changed...HUGS Chris
isnt it nice to still have your christening certificate, I must look at the date on mine and see when I was christened, ....Jules xxx
