A Wet Wednesday !

I got ready earlier ,and went to the shops,I thought it had stopped raining ,well it had ........but as soon as I was some way from home it started again ,you know that fine mizzley stuff ,well I could have saved myself the trouble of doing my hair before I went out ! I came home looking like a drowned rat .Its not cold though .

Maurice is on the first of his three nights ,So Scooby and I are home alone .When he's here Maurice likes to watch Countdown ,then Deal or no Deal ,I have to admit I quite like ,to watch the latter .Noel Edmunds has'nt changed one iota ,since his days with that silly Mr Blobby ,and before that even .Then its Richard and Judy ,I dont always watch them though have to admit to enjoying their book reviews~this evening they were discussing a book written by an American Author ,Grealdine Brooke entitled 'March',which was you remember the surname of our favourite 'Little Women',by Loisa May Alcott,I lost count of the times I read that ,and remember ,when we won a first round of a drama festival ,in the Womens Institute Drama group,we had to put together a five minute sketch rather quickly as we had'nt anticipated winning !,we adapted a short passage from 'Little Women ',........."Christmas wont be Christmas ,without presents grumbled Jo".........I cant remember if we went on to the next round ,but no matter I'm losing my thread !..... Oh yes 'March 'is about  father ,to the girls Meg Amy Jo and Beth ,who with Marmee, stayed at home ,whilst father it turns out was a Chaplain to the troops fighting in the civil war ,this book  tells the story from Fathers point of view ,telling of the bloody battles ,the slavery ,and aparently Father became involved with one Grace !who later encourages him to go home to the family and Marmee is aware of this when Father comes home though neither mention it ,all of these details I gleened from the reviewers ,and I'm now wanting to read the book for myself ,I am an avid reader ,I love book shops and scour charity shops and market stalls for more booty .Enjoy your evening folks .

                                                   Love fromJan xx

My fav book of all time. I have NEVER forgiven Jo for not marrying Lauri(spelling?) though.  Must get a copy of the book you mention. I did hear part of the review this evening when Richard said it was very bloodthirsty  but hadn't realised it was the father of Little Women they were discussing...I too love to read and scour the charity shops and book shops.

Mizzley, what a great word, I love it.  Oh yes, I read Little Women several times when I was young and remember the movie as well.  I used to buy lots of second hand books.

I have never read Little Women . . .yet! Can you believe that Jan?My stepfather got me a copy a few years ago ,its a hardback copy and in the front cover it says "presented by somebody Torrance to (little girls name ,cant remember now and its in a box somehwere) aged six at the Glasgow childrens library on behalf of something or other. . . in 1901! So. . . if any scottish person reads your journal Jan I would like to know who this Torrance  chap is . . .and I would love to give the book to the little girls family.I must get round to reading it too.

Haven't read little women since school Jan, I'm tempted to pick it up again now you've mentioned it.  We had loads of rain today.  I've watched Deal or no Deal, it's become very popular, I dare say they'll be a board game out soon.  Rache

It wet and very windy here in Washington today, too.  And they keep saying we may get snow Wednesday night or Thursday.  It's so windy up north of Seattle they have closed the floating bridge over Seattle's Lake Washington.  Also several mountain passes are closed due to wind, heavy snow & avalanche danger.  I thought Spring was coming ?!?!?!   I loved "Little Women" both in book form and the several versions of movies that have been made over the years. Love you graphics.....Linda in wet & windy northwest Washington.

Hi, thank you for visiting my journal and for leaving a positive comment. Like you I love books.I bought Jane Austin from a charity shop.I love her writing. How did such a plain young woman write such passion, when she had never experienced love.Sadly died at a young age, but leaving us such a legacy in her books, not to mention the film version of Pride & Predudice. Mr.Darcy wonderfully acted by the truly gorgeous Colin Firth. I once did drama at college, it was suposed to be a sad play but for some reason the audience broke into hysterical laughter.was it my acting I wonder?
love your journal.
