A Bracing walk through the woods

Good evening everyone ,I'm later posting today as you know Maurice ,is on holiday so we've been out exploring !!We drove over to Holme Fen ,a few short miles away ,parked up and set off in the direction the map pointed ,we walked through birch woods that arent awake yet ,still look very wintery ,like wise the ferns along the bridal paths are a rusty colour ,we made a resolve to come back in a few weeks when spring comes to the area ,We walked for a while and saw a fox in the distant bracken,on abit further we spied the muntjaks feeding ,not much bird song ,I'm sorry to say ,we walked for what seemed like miles ,well at least two !but for someone who is used to being parked in front of the PC all day !!not bad !!We met a couple of ladies walking their dogs Scooby was pleased to meet the greyhound ,but the other dog we were informed isnt very sociable so was kept away further into the wood ,on we went then to my delight came across lots of lovely snowdrops ,in such a lovely setting ,much as I was tempted the only ones I brought home were in the camera, well maybe another half mile and ,yes there they were ,The posts I told you about in the entry I did a few weeks ago, entitled the lowest of the low ,where I explained why the land around is shrinking ,The cast iron posts  were sunk completely ,in 1852 ,And  now towers more than four metres above ground showing how the peat has shrunk .One of the posts was replced about fifty years ago ,to replace one that had completely disintergrated .So there you have it ,pictures of some thing I told you about ,and something Maurice and I were  very interested to see ,Have a good evening everyone with love from

Thanks for this one too ,Sandra .

Hi Jan, what an interesting entry.  I loved the photos and thought at first that the  area looked so like Black park near to us.  Of course it isn`t at all like it really, apart from the birches and the muntjak deer because the ground there is peat and Black Park is very sandy.  Isn`t it amazing how the ground has just disappeared like that, I`ll bet it`s a lovely place to visit in the Spring time.  No doubt Scooby really enjoyed his day at Holme Fen. :o)

The ponco's great Jan, I love the colour.  Very jealous of the snowdrops, they're really plentiful there.  All three of you enjoyed your ramble, those are lovely interesting pictures.  Amazed how much the land has sunk. Rache
