Thanks to Chris for the graphic ,I know it says Autumn on it ,but disregard that ,and enjoy the following ,it has been on my notice board for ages and I thought I would like to share it with you ,
My washing machine is a mysterious thing .I have a theory that it is not the innocent household electrical item it masquerades as being.
Now you may think me rather strange for saying this, but I believe that my washing machine is a connecting tunnel to an alternative world ,a world where socks rule the earth,
In this other world, the unloved, unappreciated neglected socks of our world can roam free,no longer down trodden ,no longer trampled on by their thoughtless oppressors,My washing machine allows these socks a convenient escape route to this alternative world .
However not all socks may go through,The master of the sock tunnel has declared that through this route no partners can pass,Every sock must start life afresh.Only one can go.One is left behind.
The sock tunnel master, also rejects ageing haggard and holey socks .
They are cast back into the whirlpool with the rest of the washing. In this brave new world only gleaming new young socks, especially those born under the sign of the patron Saint of socks St Michael are allowed to pass therough,Yes ageism exists even in the sock world,
As I said before, this may sound rather strange, but it is the only explanation I have for the vast numbers of absconding socks that have disapeared from my washing machine, sorry tunnel over the years, leaving behind a forlorn, now useless partner.
I estimate that the' sock missing, presumed lost'list is extensive enough to keep the freezing peoples of Syberia sock happy for centuries.
I wonder if you can guess what I am knitting now? ,
And so to bed ....Lots of love
Thankyou Missie for my dancing Santa .

I must say my socks are missing lots of pairs too ! Where do they go to???
I'd guess you are doing a stocking of course. 'On Ya'' - ma
Hi Jan - my mother in law always used to say she would like to meet the one legged man who lived in their house but no one ever saw !!!! you're knitting a pair of socks - maybe ?!
Luv Jaynee x
My odd socks are deliberately odd, Jan lol
Lol I knew there was something going on and all these years I have been blaming the sock monster lol. Not fair I know what you are knitting but aren't allowed to guess boo hoo.
Love
Debbie

In my house - odd shoes are cool - (Teenager thing) so I don't worry whether I only find one. My Sam normally walks around the house with one on, one off anyhow! Strange ah? Must take after his grandmother. HE HE. Love ya
Cute! Looks like you are knitting a pair of house slippers (footies). Helen
This is funny Jan.Too true too.I guess it might be a new winter Scarf.Love the colour mix, no matter what it is ,and I know you will look fabulous as always in it.When it is finished.LOL.Have a lovely weekend.Take Care God Bless Kath

haha Jan! Loved this. I can well remember when I had five kids at home and the growing basket of singular socks that had no partners to be found. I always marveled at it. Who knows where they all disappeared to! Whatever it is you are knitting, I love the colours!

Absolutely loved the sock story Jan. !! hope you don't mind I have copy/pasted it to send to my niece who is ALWAYS complaining about lost socks...she now wears odd socks !! she says she can't afford to get new ones ???? maybe it is a hint !!!
Have a lovely weekend. Love Sybil xx
Morning Jan!
Cute story.....would you be knitting Socks by any chance....do tell!
Aileen....X
;)
Socks or a scarf?! I have a drawer full of single socks waiting to be reunited with their long lost partners! Now I know where they go perhaps washing them by hand is the answer!! Have a lovely weekend! Jeannette xx http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels
That was a great entry I had a great laugh hows about we all get together with all those odd sock and see how many pairs we have. Love Joan.
Jan, you had me in hysterics with this entry, LOL, and I am still giggling about it!! My washing machine must be in cahoots with yours .....perhaps our socks are meeting up to plan an invasion of the sockites!!! Trouble is they are not fussy who they take so perhaps we will be invaded by a holey, multicoloured army of misfits, LOL.....either that or someone has embarked on a quest to re-sell us all our old socks and has devised a way of extracting them from our machines!!! I have just read your entry and my comment to Rob and he is sitting shaking his head and wondering just who he is married to, LOL!!!
Seems a reasonable explaination! I have knitted socks and now I'm going to have to find the pattern, not that I have done much knitting lately.

You won't believe this, but I lost one this very morning...........I opened the washing machine when the cycle had finished and there was one left in the drum with no partner and yes, you have guessed it, the one remaining was the one with a hole in it!!!!!!!! Eileenx
Loved reading this Jan ~ and it is true many of my socks have gone missing in the past ~ never a pair though always just one ~ if it was a pair that disappeared I wouldn't notice the tunnell had taken any at all :o) it is the ones it chooses to leave behind that tell the story ~ Ally x
Ps Jan I guess you are you knitting socks at the moment :o) Ally x
Either they're going through the tunnel or the Borrowers have taken them...lol
Yasmin
Some of the missing ones have found a safe house under my husband's bed...........
Bunny xx
LOL..if that isn't the truest little ditty I've ever read....I've started buying socks in packages that are a solid color and all match. I'm tired of getting patterns and having the washer "eat" them. Now, I'm guess your knitting socks or slippers. Love xx Chris
So so true, but will this sock mystery ever be solved??
luv bella xx
We even seem to loose underwear in ours! LOL
Missie
I love my socks Jan and I am very very careful with them. I wear socks every day and I have many different colors and patterns. Now John that is a different story. His socks are rebellious like he is. Very cute entry. I like it. Paula
Hi Jan I wonder if anyone will ever find out about the "one "sock knicker ,I keep the odd ones sometimes just incase his mate turns up but never does ,like someone said ,somewhere theres a one legged man keeping all our socks !!!!! love these graphics .Pete told me he had a chat with you earlier lol......love you .......Jeanxx
Yes it does seem strange that all these socks go missing. When I had all the kids at home we used to fight over socks!! Monday mornings was the worst when they were retrieving socks from the ironing pile!! Not that I ironed them of course! Love Conniexx
Hi Jan,
You are absolutely right, I have a full carrier bag of 'widows and orphans' waiting for their wandering partners to return. I wrote about this problem in August and it seems that you and I suspect a very similar cause! http://journals.aol.co.uk/cornwalldreckly/random-robbies-ramblings/entries/2007/08/08/sad-socks/1116
Your machine must be a relative of ours because we have lost countless socks to it. Somewhere out there must be a sock universe, all odd of course. Are you knitting a hat?
http://journals.aol.co.uk/jeanno43/JeannettesJottings/
Jan,
I'm ROFL!! Our old machine ate socks at a rate of one a month. We never did find them. Thanks for the smile....
David
I have a solution - if you're knitting socks, knit three. ;O)
B. x
hi jan, i have to say (tempting fate!) that my machine doesn't have the same conection as yours! I do however have an underwear pinching dog! She is'nt fussy if it's clean or dirty, she just likes to add a few holes for ventilation! have a good one mrs t xx
http://journals.aol.co.uk/mleppard06/eternity/
LOL that's funny..............We must find the sock world!!
Jenny
I lost my husbands shirt sleeve once.......as well as several socks ove r the years! Great blog Jan! Eve
i BET MY SOCKS AND YOURS ARE THEIR NOW HAVING A GLASS OF WINE AND REMINISSING ABOUT THE OLD DAYS IN THE DRAWER.bECKIE X
I have a theory about missing socks: in our house it's always the old faithfuls that get through safely and the nice new ones that disappear in the washer. Old ones get all little bobbles on and cling on for dear life to the knickers but new ones are nice and smooth and slip away unnoticed. That's what I reckon.
Angie, xx
Thats funny about the socks. . mine are with yours somewhere. Hope you are ok Jan. . .love Colleen
I know I have a lot of missing socks between five people and a baby. IF you find out where they are hiding let me know so I can collect all of ours.
Take care, Chrissie
The missing sock mystery has been going on for years ! Linda in Washington
Sooooooo.......that's where all my missing socks have gone! lol
Looks like you are knitting a scarf, maybe?? :)
Hugs
Jackie
LMAO at the sock mystery being solved! Now I know it wasn't me going mad! he he! I haven't read your next entry yet but I am going to guess a scarf! Linda xx
