November 1 st ,did you remember to say Rabbits?(old English custom dictates the first word you say on waking on the first day of the month should be Rabbits )! Like many of you I am so pleased Halloween is over ,I only got one knock at the door ,and since Maurice wasnt home yet ,I didnt answer.I had been watching the news and they were saying ,the Police had extra men on duty ,because of the youths ,taking advantage of the date to create trouble, not particularly in this area but in Peterborough the police had an average of one call a minute during the hours of 5.45 and 8.45 last evening, people were getting eggs thrown at cars and houses ,and on one estate,a house was bombarded with potatoes .On the plus side though, when I went over to the co op ,after lunch yesterday I found the staff there, all entering into the spirit of things ,and many of them were dressed up as you will see from my pictures above .Just short entry today,I am going into the office tomorrow Karen emailed me to say she was picking me up at 1.15 pm ,So I will another busy day ! So for now....

I had absolutely no trick or treaters at all last night. They can't like my street very much!
Love the pics.....you've just reminded me to post the one of Brian when he got dressed up for work. Don't tell him I'm putting it on here though....he won't be chuffed!
Hugs,

It's a real shame when a few spoil it for others, great photos of the staff though
Maybe the saying was differant in our area Jan.We were always taught to say WHITE RABBITS on the 1st of any month with an R in it.Yes there were a few problems up and down I heard car mirrors being broken off etc.Well to me that is not tiny kids.Teens take advantage to do wanten damage all over Good grief and we havn't even reached Mischief night yet.Watch out Saturday all I say!!Lovely photo's so nice to see people in the spirit..I think you would like my recent entry Jan if you care to take a peek LOL!!Take care.

Wish I had known about "rabbits", is that EVERY month on the first day, tell us why, how this custom started.
Great pics. {{ }}

We had a few trick or treaters but since I'd shut the doorbell in the cupboard and turned up the tv they didn't bother us at all. B. x
Looks like you had a ghoulish shopping trip!

great photos and very good of them to dress up, I didnt have any trick or treaters knocking on my door lastnight, its a shame that others have to spoil what is meant to be a bit of fun
take care Lynne xx
I didn't have one knock at my door, Jan. Just as well, as I had no candy! lol I don't buy it anymore, because the kids just don't trick or treat like they used to. Too dangerous nowadays. Sad.
Why should people say "Rabbit" on the first day of November? I've never heard that. Can you give me the history on that one?
Have a wonderful evening, as it's about 5:00 PM on your side of the pond!
Hugs and love
Jackie
never heard of that saying before jan LOL...It's so horrible how some minority troublemakes have hijacked something to just go out and cause trouble :o( Caff xxxxx
Pity about the spoilsports, particularly as they spoil it for the little ones.
We had a lovely evening with lots of nice children, such a shame there has to be the yob culture that try to wreck everything.
Another busy day for you tomorrow, who saysd life quietens down as you get older, I've never been so busy in my life!

Where does the time go new Jan with being retired you would think we would have plenty but we don't seem to have a minute. Love Joan.
Hi Jan!
Hmmm I don't know about the "Rabbit" thing either. All I can think of is Lots of little bunnies! Don't really need that! lol
Glad you are enjoying your networking meetings. I love going to the Univera Seminars and learning new stuff!
Take Care! Hugs

I'd wonder how that 'rabbits' custom started??? I'd never heard that one. My grandmother had a saying for everything, but never mentioned that one. It's too bad some make it bad for the ones that do appreciated the fun. We only had a small group for trick or treat last night. Hope you enjoy your day ! 'On Ya' - ma
Jan ~ Loved the photo's in the Co~Op ~ isnt it sad how some people just want to spoil the enjoyment of what should be a happy celebration mainly meant for small children ~ Hope you have a good day to~morrow ~ Ally
I didn't turn on my outside light either. There has been a lot of robbing going on around here. Some of it in the daylight hours at grocery stores. Your pictures were cute. Helen
We didn't have any trick or treaters either. I was quite pleased about that as my front door sticks in the damp weather making it a nightmare to tug open. :-(
Lovely pics Jan, haven't been shopping there for a while.
Freda
Jan, I enjoyed those pictures. Sorry to hear that the young "pains" caused so much trouble on what should have been a fun day for the kids. Have a nice time at work. Regards, Bill.
Why do you say Rabbits on the first day of the month? I've never heard of that custom before. We had a quiet Halloween, too. Had the lights off so the kids wouldn't knock. Hope your day is excellent!
Hugs, Kathy
isnt it horrible when the yobs ruin it for everyone.
i enjoyed the oics

We only had one knock too nad so far as I know there has been no trouble in the area....fingers crossed I am right!! Time the trouble makers were dealt with firmly...the softly softly approach has only made things worse it seems. Enjoy tomorrow. eve x
I wonder if Halloween will just be a memory some day..... trick or treating I mean.... we had 46 kids dressed cute come to the door for candy and it was without incident in our neighborhood so it was all right with us this year..... Sandra
Hello Jan - really when you think about it, its a horrible thing to be celebrating this thing called 'Halloween'. Did you pop over to 'Chucks Blog'? I only referred to him as 'Yank' as that is how he referred to himself while emailing me .... 'Your Yank Chuck'.....what a lovely gentleman he is. Take care. Luv Jayne x

Hi Jan,
I got `pinched and punched` for the first of the month at work this morning, is it November already??? :o)))
Sandra xxxx
Well, I've never heard of the custom of saying rabbits on November first. I didn't do it this morning. What will happen? Will I get pregnant? LOL!
I am sorry to hear that some people decided to cause trouble on a day that's supposed to be fun. I don't know why they do those things.
Yes, I am also happy Halloween is over.
Have a good evening.
Dianna
have a good thursday:)

That's anopther reason I don't like Halloween, so many trouble makers out doing damage! I hope you had a good day at the office! Jeannette xx http://beta.journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/

I like to see the people in shops dressing up for Halloween. I got a few little kids at the door with their Mums and Dad so it wasnt too bad. When is it mischief night I wonder?Thats the one I dont like
Nice to see the supermarket people dressed up. I always forget to say White Rabbits. Well, I think of it later in the day but it is supposed to be the very FIRST thing that you say and I never remember to do it. Wonder where that custom came from? We never had any trick or treaters. Good luck in the awards.

glad I am not the only grumpy killjoy who does not like hallowe'en! love conniex
I always try to say `White Rabbits' first of all at the beginning of the month. I think I got it from a schoolfriend . Whether it's worked or not I cannot tell ! Bunnyxx
Glad you didn't get any trouble Jan xx
Jen
I didn't hear of anything bad in our town this year. How refreshing restores my faith in youth. Thats interesting about the word rabbit. Could it be for luck? Here a rabbit's foot is a lucky charm. Paula
Jan for someone who's retired you're always busy and doing things for others, it's commendable. I found it very quiet on the trick or treating. Have a good day in the office. Rache
I got 'pinched and punched for first of the month' as soon as I got to work though! Linda xx

Where I live it's "white rabbits" on the first of the month. Eileen
Rabbits, huh? I'll have to remember that! It just really angers me to see people take advantage of a holiday to do damage and harm others. What's wrong with people now days? The costumes you shared are very nice!
