Ok ! time to confess ...The Banjo as you can now see... is a model ....didnt any one wonder ? hee heee (wicked giggle )
A lovely sunny day here ,now the frost has cleared,Maurice rang from work ,in pain ,I made him an apointment at the emergency doctor,he has a kidney infection, he is home now ,So after making him comfortable with painkillers ,a hot water bottle and tea ,I put two loads of washing out , I then set off with my trolley for my shopping and Maurices script for antibiotics
I do hope I am forgiven for teasing you about the banjo? Maurice does have three (real )guitars and a bodrhan and yes he does play them ,and has a lovely singing voice especially the lovely old Irish songs many of which he learned as a child from his Mum and other family members
The Bodhran is the traditional Irish Drum. Made from a round wooden frame, with an animal skin( quite often goat skin) stretched over it. The bodhrán (pronounced bow-rahn) is the heartbeat of Irish traditional music, and is a hugely popular. Capable of surprisingly complicated rhythms, when played well it can really lift the music. You don’t need to be able to read music to play; get yourself a Bodhrán and you will soon be able to join in with the music.
You play the drum with a tipper ,threaded through the fingers, and by rotating the wrist.
I hope you are all having a restful Saturday keep warm everyone with love from ....
Thanks Debbie for todays siggy ..

It must be nice to have his music in the house. Have you ever learned to play one ? Sandra
I brought Doc a miniture Fender guitar with case about the same size a few years ago. Doc has quite an assortment of guitars as well. He has about 5 Electric guitars, and 2 acoustic guitars. Then again he also teaches his instrument and plays in a few bands...I've never understood so many.
Loved hearing about the the bodhran. I used to have a tribal drum myself for a few years. Wonderful entry hon. Your in my thoughts! (Hugs) Indigo
I love your pictures....thank you for sharing. I have been playing the drums for many, many years and have always enjoyed watching someone play the Bodhran. I especially like to watch the drummers with Celtic Woman. What a show.
Smiles,
David

Hi Jan,
What wonderful pictures! I love the irish Bodrhan.
Hope you had a wonderful birthday on the 20th and that Maurice is better now.
You need to post a video of Maurice playing his guitar and singing so we can hear his lovely voice.
Leona
What a beautiful blog! And I only found you by chance after you kindly visited mine via our mutual friend Jeanie. What a beautiful collection of guitars. I must admit I haven't heard of the bodhran before, but I am from England and not Ireland...but I do love to learn about new things, so thanks for sharing. Best wishes to you...and I shall add a link to your lovely blog on mine so I have it handy to visit often. God Bless. Sal ( Sally ).

Wow! I would love to hear Maurice play and sing sometime! I dabble in genealogy and my Papaw told me when I was little that mom's side of the family is Scot/Irish. Not to bore you much, but my mother's side of the family lived in the southern states of Kentucky and Tennessee. Alot of the songs they brought over from Scotland and Ireland were still sung over 100 years later. My great-great-grandmother was even named "Barbara Allen" Brown.
Glad to hear in your most recent entry that Maurice is feeling better. I hear kidney infections are quite painful.
Love and hugs,
Sheila
