Did the Earth move for you ?

Quake more powerful than 2007 Manchester tremors I pinched this from the welcome page !

Good morning and it is too, lovely bright sun shine, a bit brisk and breezy, would be a good wash day. Because Maurice has been off work, we have got into the habit of staying up late watching TV and last night was no exception .We finally retired about 12.30 .Maurice went straight to sleep ,I cant do that and often read for ages ,I was  engrossed  in my book, When  just before 1- o- clock ,a sensation of sound perhaps a dull whoosh ,and then  the bed juddered from side to side ,I leaned towards Maurice ! But he’d gone, he shot out of bed and snatched open the curtains, but by this time there was nothing to see, he did a tour of the bungalow, spoke to Kizzie who was looking bewildered, then I did a tour ! We decided it had been an Earth quake .We awake this morning to the news that, that indeed was the case 5.2 on the Richter scale and the strongest for 25 years, the epicentre was in Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, though it was felt right through England and Scotland …….so there you go I just wanted to put that on record, Have a good day everyone, with love from

Yes! Jan, I've just commented on Stevie's blog
I was just on my way to Bed...late, and as I was on my own, very frightened, was someone 'breaking in' the house? I looked out and nothing to be seen, so hurried down three flight of stairs.....missed the bottom step, and went sprawling across the room. Managed to get to the Phone, and Allan had to drive down, and rescue me! He bathed a cut on my Arm, bathed my Knee etc. needless to say I'm very shaken this morning. I haven't fully recovered from fall in  2005, which set Arthritis off in my Right Knee, now this is all down the opposite side...
So in theory the 'Earthquake' did affect me!

Believe it or not, I was never more relieved to hear about the earthquake!

I had only been in bed for about 10mins, when I heard the open bedroom door vibrating against my bedroom table which is just behind it, and my first thoughts was that one of my cats had somehow managed to sneak upstairs and was leaning against the door whilst giving herslf a good scratch.  But then the bed started moving backwards and forwards, thinking the cat must now be under the bed I switched the bedside light on expecting to see one of my cats emerge, but there was nothing.
I spent a very sleepless night (with the light on!) pondering on a possible explanation, I knew I hadn't imagined it, or that it had been a 'waking dream', I refused absolutely to believe in 'spirits' =:-O
I wanted a rational explanation, and I was still turning over possibilities this morning when on came the news that an earthquake had hit Lincolnshire at around 1.0am - exactly the time of my 'experience'.  I laughed out loud!  I was so relieved to hear this as it was one explanation I would never have thought of. :-D
But so sorry to hear about your experience Aileen. :-(

Yes we heard the earthquake though our son (18) slept blissfully through it!  We didn't realise it was an earthquake though.  The farm next door to where we live has been pulled down (it was haunted) and we live in fear of inheriting its ghost! The chest of drawers started moving and everything on top of it was dancing around, though the bed was still!!!!!!  We thought the ghost had finally moved in hehehehehe  Eileenx

When I lived there we experienced a small quake, but nothing along the lines of the one you felt.  My tea sloshed a bit in the glass but you could hardly feel it.  Hopefully you won't get any bad aftershocks.  Have a great week.

I'm so glad you too are ok after that earth quake this morning.  I just read Jeannettes journal saying the same.  We rarely hear of earthquakes in your part of the world, so I guess that was a surprise for you.  I'm just dealing with lots of snow here...no sunshine, but very cold.  'On Ya' - ma

Dear Jan,

I don't think Wales was affected by the earthquake.  If I did, I missed it as I was sound asleep.  I have been reading about it on the Internet today.  It must've been scary for all those affected.  I'm glad both you and Maurice are okay, and no damage was caused.  Isn't it amazing though, how such a little rumble, could cause so much destruction?

Oh Jan; thrilling to hear about it from someone so close.  We had one near here 25 years ago, round about 8am.  Wildly different reactions I remember, as to the duration etc.
Lucky this one happened when most people were off the streets.  Poor Kizzie, she must have needed a cuddle!

Hi Jan ,I thought I'd had a dream till Pete sais this morning about the earthquake ,it couldn't have worried me too much as I went straight to sleep again not knowing that this had happened ,all the girls at school were on about it saying it knocked things off shelves and even pictures on the wall . When Petes Mum and Dad lived at Gainsborough we used to go shopping at Market Rasin,I remember it being a small town .Lovely to chat to you  just now ......Love Jeanxx

Jan
I saw on the news about the quake in England and I wondered if any of our J-Land community might have felt it.  I am glad to hear there was no damage and the news reported no deaths.  I've been through a few of these during the time I lived in Hawaii and the feeling one has during the quake is so strange.  I'm glad all was well at your house in the aftermath.  Take care!

I've lived through lots and lots of earthquakes (I live in California, USA).   I hate them with a passion.  You never really get used to them.  I'm glad you are okay and that it wasn't too big.  :)  Julie

Didn't feel anything, and I am on the Essex coast. The news has been full of it though. Glad you are safe. Best wishes, Sal.

Hi Jan,

I did wonder this morning if you had felt the earthquake, also I wondered about Ally who must have too. I`m glad you didn`t have any structural problems with your home even though you did both have a bit of a shock. Apparently it WAS felt here but Jim and I slept right through it...lol!

Yikes, that is frightening.  That's a pretty good sized shake you had.  We had one here in Pa. that was about 2 on the scale.  I didn't feel anything but some just felt a small shudder-like feeling.  I didn't realize there were quakes in the UK.  I'll have to pop over to Guido's and see if he felt anything.  Love xx Chris

I slept through it all Jan.  It woke Bryan up though and I didn't believe him at the breakfast table.  He wasn't too sure himself until a neighbour said it was and to put the TV on to see.
Oh well! Thankfully there were no deaths although one young man had a broken hip when the chimney pot fell through the roof onto him in bed.
Stay well and safe.

Can you believe that Todd and I both slept through all the excitment?  Well, we did.  I am thankful that there were not alot of people hurt, only one as far as I know.  Lots of damage though.  Scary times we are living through right now.

We slept through it, had no idea until we heard the news. We did feel the one in Dudley about five years ago, of course that is so much closer to us. That one felt as if the bed had collapsed, we seemed to drop about 6 inches. I'm surprised the insurers are saying there was so much damage.

Being from California, earthquakes are a part of our every day life.  Matters not, however, because they still scare the crap out of me, everytime we have one!!  I'm sure if was pretty scary for you all, although, you both seemed rather calm about it!  A 5.2 on the Richter scale is a pretty good shaker.  I'm glad no one was hurt, and hope that you don't have to experience another of those in this lifetime!

Hugs and love
Jackie

How scary that earthquake must have been!...I didn't get anything down this neck of the woods...the last time I ever remember being afraid of something like that was I was just married with my eldest son being a small baby and a bomb went off in Aldershot. I lived on the outskirts but was in my kitchen with mum and we felt the red pottery tiles really groaning under out feet! The sensation went up our complete bodies, it was strange and scary. It turned out to be the Officers Mess and my friends sister was killed, she was a waitress...bad times!...Linda x x

Nope, we never knew a thing Jan, and it was right on our doorstep.  My friend who lives about a mile away said it sounded as if a locomotive was running through the house!  I suppose it would depend on where the fault line runs but I don't know.
love, Angie, xx

Yep. . I felt the earthquake but thought my house was haunted or something! I never opened my eyes and drifted back off to sleep but remembered the strange shaking next morning.Fascinating to think of everyones house shaking isnt it?
