Here it is Monday again ,dont know where the weeks go ,I think Ive used that opening line before ,Its an age thing when you start repeating yourself. isnt it ? Theres got to be some hope for me cause I know Im doing it !
How well Im getting to know you all now ,its amazing how much of our selves we give away ,possibly without meaning to .This Sunday lunch /dinner thing for instance ,as a small child We would be eating our dinner at lunch time whilst listening to the Billy Cotton band show ,on the radio !Its only I think that so many of us worked ,that the ritual of the Sunday roast moved to tea time, and we have even been known not to have the traditional roast sometimes ,though I have to admit,I do tend to cling on to the "ritual", creatures of habit arent we ,any way I learned that most of you eat in the evening.
I didnt get the skirt cut out I got side tracked and sort of spring cleaned the kitchen instead ,I did finish the ironing though ,only to wash some more LOL ,thinks, there must either be very dirty people or very clean folks in this house cause Im always washing lol,and dont often see the bottom of the ironing basket .Idid finish the cardy Im knitting ,apart from ......picking up all the stitches around the front sides and back to form the rib ,done on a circular needle !!Ido set my self some tasks/challenges .Leads me in to another thought ,my Grandmother would have frowned on any sewing or knitting tasks being undertaken on a Sunday ,and Colleen reminded me about the one of washing on a Sunday when she said, her neighbour had commented about her nappys being on the line on a Sunday ,my dear Father in Law used to tell me Id go to the moon !!as I pegged my nappys out ,Mother in law however ,would say better the day better the deed ,and she was the more God fearing .Bless her ......Well that was Sunday,Have a good Monday everyone . With love Jan xx

No Jan the time thing going so quickly is because life is so sweet when you are retired. You then have so much to do you don't know how you had time to work. Know your working just now but you will get your retirement back very soon and then you will be really busy lol. Love Joan.
Oh the Billy Cotton Band Show, Life With The Lyons, Al Reade, Ray's A Laugh, what memories you have just brought back. Listening to Children's Hour on the radio. Days when the pace of life was much slower and family gathered together. Happy times. Yes, our lot was full of superstitions as well, turning your money over when you see a new moon, greeting magpies because they would bring bad luck. Well, there are so many of them today you could spend all your time doing it, covering mirrors when there was a storm. Funny how you remember things and they stick even if you do not use them yourself.
I still like to do a Sunday dinner. .feels funny if im at home and I dont. . dont mind having a pub dinner though! Funny the things that stick with you.You couldnt even whistle on a Sunday LOL. My Mum used to say Sundays was a day of rest. God made the world in six days and rested on the seventh day,so no washing or ironing was done that day,it all piled up for Monday!
Once upon a time Jan, all the shops closed on a Sunday - It was lovely to just wander around the City window shopping.......Always had to wear our best clothes on Sunday even if we were not going out....Yes those were the days "BIG SIGH".......Ally
My mum still doesn't do any washing, ironing, housework (well hoovering if needed) etc on a sunday...Monday was washing day and that was it...Wish i could get away with only washing on a monday...Hmmm she did have to wash dads work clothes when he came home from the boat on a fri lunchtime...Was only dads, then my brothers too nothing else got washed cept on a mon...She won't knit or sew or anything like that on a sun either...Me i don't bother what day it is, if something needs doing then it gets done regardless LOL Caff xxx
Oh how I remember Sunday roasts with Family Favourites in the background! Mums lovely rich, thick gravy, crunchy roast tatties and all the trimmings! Oh what memories!!!
I remember listening to Family Favourites on a Sunday lunchtime Jan. Those were the days when a joint of beef was more common than a chicken. This is the second time in two days when an entry has reminded me of the gentler times gone by. :o)

I remember sundays so well, The Clitheroe Kid and Round The Horne after Family Favourites. Sunday Night at The London Palladium on telly, don't forget Liberace sunday afternoons!! We weren't allowed to bounce a ball outside either, could only go in the garden if we sat and read a book out there! How different it is today!! I've a washer that doesn't know what day it is, every day it seems to be on.........such a slave driver I am :) Rache xx
I remember my Mum telling me about her Sunday's as a child, not being allowed to read anything other than the bible, and she's always been a bookworm! She tells me tales of outside toilets and having no electricity, which sounds like the dark ages to me ;o) She did grow up in a little cottage in the Lake District though, and loved every minute of it, other than Sunday's and not being able to read!!

I had forgotten about Billy Cotton..Was he the one who said Wakey Wakey? funny how the memories come back, some little thing triggers them off.>>Love Jeanxx
I would have a sunday roast but when there's only one of you it's really not worth it :-( We always used to have lunch for tea coz my mum worked all hours god sent and therefore it was more convenient for us all to eat in the evening. I remember on Wednesdays we used to have an early tea around 4ish coz mum had to work late evenings.
We always had our biggest meal at lunch. Dad worked in a factory on 2nd shift. 2PM til 11PM. Dad has been gone 10 years now and mom still cooks the meal at lunch.
