August Post

Hi everyone,Once again a long time between posts,I have had laptop problems ,well disasters really ,mine is deceased ,and the company one I have ...well I'm not sure if I should be hand cranking it .....or maybe peddling it to make it go faster ,(as in bicycle peddles )though the other meaning of the word might be an option !and of course you know what happens when your laptop dies ? all your pictures graphics etc die too ,if you don't back up your stuff ,and me well I'm always meaning to do that~ tut tut  ,will I ever learn ?any way the chap who declared life extinct on the old Lappy thinks he may be able to retrieve some of it ,heres hoping....

Well what is the header picture all about ?
Remember ,we were the winners of the Regional Annual Report for tenants ....We had entered the catagory ,'Excellence in Annual Reports',so off we all went to Birmingham ,as we had now been short listed for the National award ,

Here we are looking forward to going into the dining room for dinner.See how we are supporting Angela, well it's only fair! she has guided us through this report ,she's the PA  to the Chief exec ,and publicity  manager and so  very clever . ..
A very Hilton hotel dinner  was enjoyed before  the presentations took place ,delicious it was... but we still left room in our tummys for butterflies ....
Ta Daaaa
and the winner is ............
Axiom Housing Association...

Every picture tells a story!!!! ,wasn't it clever of George to take this picture at just that moment ?
And below, on the stage collecting the award ,to very loud applause

And here it is....the prize we have worked so hard for

As ever lots of love Jan xx

What an exciting time for you all. The pictures to tell the tale quite well. I love the look of surprise and happiness on your face. Congrats on the award. I hope your pictures will be retrieved from your old computer. One of my sons was able to do that for me from my old one. So there is hope. Have a lovely August! It was certainly off to a great start for you.

Many many congratulations,Jan. How lucky your charges are to have you and the others caring for them.
Dead or dying computer? My SIL says images can be transferred to a memory stick. I nodded sagely, but that's as far as it's got....

Congratulations to all of you Jan. Sorry about your laptop. I'm negligent when it comes to backing up too. I really need to do that. My computer went into the shop a couple weeks ago & I always stress out about my hundreds & hundreds of pictures...thankfully they were still there when i got it back.

Congrats to each of you. Great job! The picture says it all. It's great. I'm really sorry about your computer. Backing up is important, for sure. Still, many of us forget or simply don't do it. Take care.

Hi Jan.

So sorry about your laptop. I'm thinking about getting one. Actually, I'm going to, bc I'll need it to work. I was wondering, how long does a laptop usually last?

One thing I've have been doing on a pretty regular basis is, and I've learned my lesson the hard way, trust me, is regularly copying all my files, from my computer, onto DVDs (Read/Write disks). I do this with all my files i want to save, including things in my PICTURES section (ie, photos, pictures, clip art, etc). I also copy items in MY DOCUMENTS (ie, ebooks, documents I've received, documents I've written, etc). In addition, I save some music files, but not a lot, bc they take up a lot of space on one's computer. For instance, I may save my favorite MP3s that I have downloaded. I can't think of anything else I may copy, but there may be a few more files I may copy.

Just keep in mind you may want to copy more than your photo files and graphics, you may especially want to copy some of your DOCUMENTS as well... Just something to think about. I know my DOCUMENTS are invaluable, esp the ebooks (electronic books) i have...

After having said that I copy all this information, all these files onto disks, thereby being able to take what I want to my next computer, I wanted to quickly tell you something!

To do this process was EASY!

At first I thought it would be difficult, and I was oh so intimidated! I was actually frightened, LOL. But I decided not to fear anything, I mean what would I really have to lose, anyway -- as my friends have always told me, it IS pretty hard to break a computer! so i went for it...

First I went to Wal-Mart (but Best Buy would be just as good), and asked the clerks in the electronics section which DVDs to buy. i learned if you are to copy your computer files (photos, documents, etc,) from your computer to a DVD, and someday back to another computer, you have to make sure you buy Read/Write DVDs. they may be labeled DVD + RW. RW is for Read/Write of course. After buying a pack of about 20 of these DVD + RW disks, pop one into the proper DVD bay, and merely follow the directions! Your computer will ask you what you want to do, and which files you want to copy. If i am leaving a step out here, just ask somebody at wal-mart, best buy, or google about copying your files for your particular computer. or look in your computer manual, LOL, or a tutorial w your computer. my point here is it quite easy, and once you start the process, after the DVD + RW disk is in the DVD baby, all you have to do is follow directions, answering it's questions, or doing what the computer prompts you to do! pretty simple, no? :)

krissy's comment 2:

Trust me... Step out in faith, believe in yourself, and the Lord, and just go for it! :) And don't forget to do it on a regular basis! If you don't, what's the point? You'll barely have any pictures, etc. at all. I mean, isn't that the point in the first place, to get what you want?...

So don't be like some of us are, and even like I am on occassion, LOL... Thanks for reminding me, Jan, that it's time to copy my files once again!

One final thought. I was talking w a friend (a computer expert) the other night, who told me that after one's computer "crashes", all is not lost, as there are still ways to retrieve photos, documents, and other files from a computer! Bob stated the EASIEST way is to call up Best Buy (I believe it is Best Buy -- the store who has the "Geek Squad"), and ask them if they have the service in which they will "retrieve your photos (or whatever files you want retrieved). They will probably tell you you have to bring your "crashed" computer in, but no matter that it is "crashed", they will still be able to retrieve photos, etc off of it, for a price of about 50 US dollars. Most people will find that very much to their liking, as photos are priceless; photos are memories one can NEVER get back...

Hope that helped you some!

Hi Jan, thanks for the message. I can't email you because I've not got the right set up apparently so I hope you get this message. I accidentally pressed "publish" and then when I realised (I didn't want to publish as I haven't uploaded all the photos) I pressed "revert to draft". That is why you got the message that the blog post doesn't exist. Blimey. What a palavar! xx
