A concert for Diana

Yesterday ,afternoon The BBC ,took us to the newly opened Wembly Stadium,in London ,to see the concert the Princes William and Harry had helped to organise for their late Mothers 46th birthday ,15 million people saw this and it was televised in140 countrys. It was on from 3.30 until nearly 10.30 pm and I watched most of it ! I hadnt  really planned to watch but ,I had  a peep and was hooked ,like Jeannette (jottings) and I see Astra, watched it too,As did Jayne (single girl ) who has also done an entry ,and many others  Im sure enjoyed it as much  I did .

The Princes introduced the show ,saying it would be a programme of all their Mothers favourites, and some of theirs too ,Harry sent a message to his regiment the Blues and Royals ,currently serving in Iraq, saying how he missed them ,wished he could be with them ,and told them to keep safe ,many wonderful acts includedSir Elton John ,who opened and closed the show ,Bryan Ferry,,Status Quo,,Duran Duran,,Will Young..Tom Jones,,Nelly Fortado,,James Morrison,The show also featured a medley  of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber songs ,performed by Anastacia,Josh Groban,Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman,we saw Lee Mead ,singing songs from 'Joseph 'with Donny Osmand and  Jason Donavan, and Connie who won the part of 'Maria 'last year, was there, singing beautifully  too . The Royal ballet had the whole audience spell bound as they danced from the final act from Swan Lake ,Diana loved the ballet and indeed all kinds of dance ,music and the theatre, beween the acts all sorts of people were fimed telling what a difference Diana had made to their lives ,I agree with Jeannette it was spoiled only by the lack of a proper compere ,but that is my only complaint ,I saw that Harrys girl, friend Chelsy sat beside him ,but Kate Middleton although there, wasnt sitting beside William !Their cousins, Prince Andrews daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie ,were there boogying away each time they were caught on camera, and I spotted Dianas Brother Charles , The Earl Spencer, and her sisters The evening closed with some family film,of Diana as a baby at her Christening and growing up ,at Park house Sandringham,in Norfolk

All in all it was a wonderful celebration of a life so very sadly cut short nearly ten years ago

               With Love Jan xx

Hi Jan,

I too watched the concert. I thought it was a wonderful way to celebrate the life of Diana, the Princess of Wales, and what would've been her 46th birthday. She was such a beautiful person!

Best wishes,
Leigh :o)

I am so glad Jan that I have come across a couple of other people who watched the concert.  I know it was beamed to so many millions yet only three people have commented on my mention of it in my journal entry.  So perhaps although they could receive it, many did not watch.  I loved the ballet and brought back memories of when I took my mother to see Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House.  Absolutely stunning when you see it in real life.  I had intended to watch only some of it but yes, I did get hooked.  I particularly liked  Duran Duran, Bryan Ferry, Quo and Rod Stewart and Elton John.  Also P. Diddy and that surprised me as I did not think I would.  I am sure Diana was looking down.  The boys did her proud.  I am glad Harry mentioned his regiment.  He must feel gutted.

We just saw bits and pieces of it on a program called 20/20.  They interviewed both boys and showed different parts of the concert.  It looked marvelous !

I didn't catch but a few minutes of the concert.
Princess Diana was definitely irreplaceable though. She would've made such a wonderful queen and you're right, her life was cut too short.

She touched so many people's lives. Many say she would have made a great queen. I think many of us followed her life and times.  'On Ya' - ma

I have recorded it all and intend to keep it for posterity! Something to show the grandchildren of who their future King's mother was. She passed on Kevins 16th birthday so will be with us always. It was, apart from the BBC's booboo's, an excellent tribute to her.

Watched the Diana programme last night and really enjoyed it.  The Royal Family didn't realise what a gem they had in her and she would have made a great queen.  As it is now, I no longer have any respect of Charlie and hope the present queen outlives him.  ~Eileenx

We watched the concert on our TV yesterday evening. It was quite a tribute. I think the two Princes would have made their Mom very proud. Regards, Bill.

I loved Kanye West. But I love his music anyway so I am biased!Loved the home video at the end of Dianas first birthday, it makes her more, well, human. It brings it all home how sad the whole thing is, and these people who keep on dragging up the past must make it really hard for William and Harry to move on.Beckiexx

I am sad to say I missed this tribute to this wonderful woman who I have followed since her wedding day. I cried the day they announced she was killed in an automobile accident. I hope they have it on again someday. Her sons are such wonderful young men to do this for her.

Yes, I could not agree with you more; what a sad ending of life to such a beautiful and caring person.

Like you, once I had had a peep at the show, I was also hooked and could not stop watching it.

I thought the show, especially Swan Lake, was fantastic.

For me, if it had been possible, I would have loved to see the new and talented opera singer on the show.  Forgive me, it must be my age, but I am note sure of this man's name; I think he is called Paul Potts but I am not sure of his Sir name.

These days, I am not one that goes out especially to purchase records, tapes or CDs, but as soon as this man has cut a recording, I will be in the queue for I have never heard anybody sing, with such conviction, for many a year.

Sorry, I am rabling.

By for now,

John.

I watched it too and thought it was good. I think the Princes are lovely young men and their mum would have been so proud. I found it difficult not to be moved when they spoke about her. What must it be like for them to see images of her all the time? They can have a big hug from me anytime!

I also watched the program.  I hadn't intended to watch the whole thing but also got hooked quickly.  I think it was telecasted worldwide.  Diana was such a lovely girl.  I'm just so amazed at how grown up William, Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie are.  I always loved Diana and thought her sons did a wonderful job of honoring her.  Love xx Chris

I too, `watched' the concert.  On and off.  Some of the acts went right over my head, and I found the shots of the audience more interesting.  But what a great effort by those two young men !

Awww I bet Lynda my daughter would have loved this. She was living in England when Dianna was killed. She went to see all the flowers even though she didn't exactly know where she was going. She said it was history in the making and she was there so she just had to go. I think she was so very pretty. Paula

I really loved Diana. I kept up with her and have many books on the royals. I am sorry I missed this concert. I'm sure they did a wonderful job on it. I hope they replay it sometime so that people like me, who missed it, can enjoy it.
Beautiful entry!
