Farewell Walter !

Thankyou for this one Donna,Donna is in my side bar ,give her a visit

Maurice and I went over to Peterborough this morning to say our farwells to Walter ... It was a lovely service ,the music and hymns were lovely and old Wally loved his music ,the minister a really gentle quiet spoken Lady spoke about Walter ,in her eulogy in a way that touched our hearts ,reminded us about all the endearing little things that was Walter .It was a bitter sweet outing ,we saw a lot of the other residents. It was so nice to see them ,they all said, we looked well ,and that they were pleased to see us, Walters daughters said ,Dad would have been so pleased you came .

We came home and got changed into some thing more comfortable, as well as covered up clothes ,I was glad to get my tights off , The weather  has been very hot and sticky today,Maurice went fast asleep on the couch ,hes working tonight ,I swear that man could go to sleep on a clothes line ,I changed the bed and washed the covers ,I then got brave ,and washed the bedroom curtains ,I love these curtains they are different colours of mauves and lilacs ,They belonged to a resident, who died whilst I was still at work I was very fond of her ,Her daughter put alot of her effects up for sale including her lovely curtains, that I knew she had paid alot of money for ,well at the time I didnt really want them ,but I didnt want anyone else to own them either  !! When we moved here ,they were perfect, but the label said dryclean only .....I have looked at the label from time to time and made a mental note to get them cleaned ......now dont go looking at my side bar to see how long the curtains have been up !! suffice it to say they have ,since we moved in !!!anyway I bit the bullet I washed them on a low setting and they look lovely ,I have ironed them and they are back up and I'm so pleased with myself ..so on that rather boring ,mundane note, but for me very satisfing..... I will  bid you all a good evening ....With Love From  Jan xx

C' Mon England

As you will see from the pictures , I went along to the Junior School Fete ,which was well attended ,considering England played  football yesterday ,they won ,but in my humble opinion not well ! I think they will have to play better than that in the further rounds ,mind it was hot ,both in Germany where the match was being played and here ...I didnt know where the school was ,but I found it OK ,on my return home I discovered I had gone the long way round ,in the heat and Ooo me feet! I didnt stay long, after,I had bought a pretty bracelet,a book on Quilts, Patchwork and Samplers,a book by an author Nora Roberts ,has anyone read her ?I won two prizes  on the Tombola , Barry !...... Marks and Spencers hand and body lotion and a pkt of sage and onion stuffing !...came home by way of the market ,where I bought some raspberrys and new potatoes ,and a cabbage all farm fresh .Then watched the end of the footie !

All the football hype the last few days/weeks,reminded me of the 1966 game ....Mick my late husband was a keen football supporter, and as we had three small children at that time ,it was decided I should take the children to see my Mum and Dad ,for the day so that Mick could watch the match 'in peace'...it was a long walk to get the bus ,and my sister Jean met me the other end .....Mum decided to keep the children entertained ,in the garden ,whilst Dad ,Jean and I watched the match ,until a thunder storm forced them in doors .so they watched with us ,till ....'.they think its all over !.....it is now ! '  We loved it ,all cheering away (Jean was in love with Geoff Hurst then anyway ! )it was soon time to get the bus home ,and Mick met us off the bus ,wearing a very long face !! We all piled off the bus all excited by Englands victory, the kids ready to share their elation with their Dad ! When he announced he hadnt seen it ,well not the last crucial part of the second half...there had been a power cut due to the storm ,till the day he died he joked how it had backfired when he packed the wife and kids of to the mother in laws ,so he could watch the match in peace !!......... Have a Blessed Sunday everyone...Jan xx

Sunshine all the way

The continuing saga of Maurices days off ....On Thursday morning he had a meeting (his day off !! 7 am !!) I got up too ,I hoovered ,and did all the ironing, before it got too hot...On Maurices return ,we went to Springfields in Spalding Lincs ..where Pete my Brother in law told me of a very good display /presentation  of the history of the Fens ..and they are an outlet shopping centre too !....I bought a very nice M&S tee shirt ,and a per una ,lace shrug, both brown ,(brown must be my new black this season )...We walked through the gardens designed by Charley Dimmock (a TV gardener ) I had seen them about two years ago when it was first done have to admit they are looking so much better now things have grown and matured ....then into the exhibition which was well worth the trip, full of facts about the Fens ,which since moveing here I am reseaching avidly...you will see from the pictures how interesting it was ...we came away armed with lots of books and brochures ,next we went to Baytree, nurseries a big garden centre also in Spalding, and continued our search for THE water feature....and then back via Crowland to Wyevale ,another garden centre ! more water features ...we have come to the conclusion they are so similar ,the cheaper ones are all cheap and nasty or the expensive are best in stately homes or even cemetarys ,,The out come is ...Maurice is now going to make his own !  .....Yesterday he went back to work I washed the lounge curtains, and did some gardening ...Oh and the other day at the club my present contained 'Sweet pea showercreme'and a flannel, This afternoon I plan to go to the junior school fete ,it starts at two pm the same time as you know what ,COME ON ENGLAND ....

So on that happy note have a lovely day every one with Love

Surprise no Alert

Scooby and I are sitting here .thinking we have been sent to Coventry ,only to realise  an alert didnt go out for this entry ,I have entered below folks .......with love Jan xx

The best laid plans!

Good morning everyone ,I cant believe I havent posted for two days ..well I suppose I can! we have been busy ,out and about and enjoying the sunshine ...we are nothing if not flexible ! in my last entry I told you what we were going to do ,now I'll tell you what we did !

Maurice came home Tueday morning after working the night shift, after a sleep ,he got up and we went and bought some maggots and bait and bread ,then went over to Mereside ,only to find the lake was now closed !,and is now a fisheries (for breeding ),very disapointed ,we drove nearer home to have a look at the lake near the golf course ,after studying it for some time ,whilst I wandered around with my camera ,Maurice decided~this lake will be good in about five years time ,where it is full of small fry,he suspects its been recently stocked ...so his venue tomorrow will need to be further a field ....When we got home ,we went allllllll the way next door, armed with a couple of bottles of wine , to Alan and Allys, who had invited us for a Barby ...we sat and chatted until Glen came home from work ...then Alan got stuck in  ,he cooked and cooked then we got stuck in and ate and ate, what a feast ,we thoroughly enjoyed our evening ,in the sunshine ,whats better than good company good food and good wine ,?all overlooked by Scooby who watched us through the hedge until he discovered he could get a better view if he stood on a patio chair! he also enjoyed the titbits Alan gave him !

The next day, dawned bright and hot again ,but Maurice decided against going fishing ,so pottered around at home ,I meanwhile got ready and went to the club ,I had taken as instructed a pkt of sweets ,I had wrapped up ,we all had to take a present, not more than a pound in  price ,which we handed in when we got there ,we then bought a ticket for a pound ,and as our number was called out ,selected a present from the sack of pressies that one kind gentleman,'dragged round ' he soon became hot and out of puff ,so the announcement was made ..When your number is called can you collect your prize....the gentleman was then seen dissapearing out side for a ciggy to recover!!!  Its a good fund raiser.... A dear little lady came and sat beside me,can I sit with you my duck ! says she? ,she was so little and frail but a little chatter box ,she wore the thickest lenses in her glasses ,my word you'd have to have good eye sight to see through them ! she told me her late husband was a special constable ,a few times ! That she lived alone and had a carer who also took her shopping, and when I asked did she have meals on wheels,Oh the indignation ..course I dont its that frozen stuff ..and you have to have one of them michael waves ! she was a babe and she called me girl ...I like that ! her name was May too ,remember I met a May last time ..can only assume Fen workers hibernated in September and then called thier resulting  daughters May !!!......a gentleman read us some of his poetry ,then we had tea ,I was then asked would I like to go on the trip to Felixstow in August, yes please...Felixstow is a seaside town on the East coast ,like Shirley said last month the meetings can be a bit boring but they do have some good trips ...and I agree and plan to go with them whenever I can ..  . .

Well this is developing into quite an epistle so I think I will tell you all about yesterday, tomorrow !  (I'll just say no water feature yet !) thats what happens if you dont post each day you find yourself playing catch up!!,'and we know what happens if we do long entrys dont we ? '  and the weather is far to nice to be sitting in at the computer ,so with love to you all and enjoy the sun...

The sun has got his Hat on!

Good morning and the sun is  shining today.......nice clear blue sky's and the swallows are flying high ,in fact I have been watching them ,they are building a nest in the eaves of the house opposite.

We have a few busy days planned, starting this afternoon,Allan next door, does a similar job to Maurice and since they are both off together today ,we are going to join Allan and Ally (Alison)and of course Glen for a barby ,in the garden ....tomorrow I told you I'm off to the over sixties club ,then Thursday we will go and buy our water feature.......

Sadly a resident has died at the scheme I worked/lived at  at ,I think he was ninety four, certainly ninety three any way ,we had a party when he was ninety...seems ages ago ,he was such a lovely gentleman ,Maurice was fond of him too .Walter always asked after Maurice saying 'hows the boss ?' ,so on Monday we will go to his service to show our respect and say farewell,to a lovely chap.....

And then a week on Saturday ,My sister Jean and her husband Pete ,Maurice and I have been invited to Northampton Rugby club, where my cousin Alan is to celebrate his seventieth birthday ,starting at midday ,so we will have lots of time to chat to family before coming home early evening ,meanwhile Jean and I can have fun discussing what we will wear, like a couple of teenagers, that we really are ?

Meanwhile, when I have finished this entry ,We are off to get some bait ,because when I go to the club tomorrow,Maurice plans to have day fishing......So on that happy note I will leave you to enjoy the sunshine,if indeed you have some where you are ....With Love From....

Bong-Bong !

Hi everyone, I'm later than usual today ,no reason really,Maurice has just gone of to work he will come home tomorrow morning,to three days off ....one of the days ,I think we will go and pick up our water feature I think we have both decided on the one we want....watch this space ! On Wednesday though,I have my over sixties club, pleeeese dont let them play bingo again !

Its been sunny again, today though I have to admit I didnt think it was very warm,it could be me,but I dont think so ! It has blown lots of washing dry though ,so I'm not complaining ,well I am, because I now have lots of ironing to grumble about !

I was listening to a news item today ,explaining that visitors to our Capital city,London, and indeed, the residents too might notice that the ding dong, ding dong will be missing from Big Ben ,thats the clock in St Stevens tower,as the bells toll out the hours, that is because the bells that create the ding dong bit is being repaired ,So we are left with the Bong !

Three years ago Maurice and I went to 'the big smoke '(you dont hear it called that any more do you ?)We enjoyed our flight on the London Eye,I wasnt sure how I would feel, not being very good with heights any more ,but I thoroughly enjoyed it ....I wouldnt have wanted to miss the panaramic view of our lovely capital city ,you can see everything from up there ,the mall leading to Buckingham palace ,the houses of parliament ,St Pauls cathedral, are just a few of the sights to be seen, it really is amazing ,after our trip on the Eye we went on the river and learned so much history attached to 'Old Father Thames' ,I will tell you all about that another day ....I need to look at the film we took on the camcorder to remindmyself  ,and so With thanks to Donna (shes in my side bar )who made my sig graphic today ,I will say ,,....have a good evening every one, With Love From
